According to my research there is no correlation between the number of words in URL and your search engine rank.
Please see the following chart obtained while analyzing the top-100 pages in Google and Yahoo (kwd="myrmecology")
Correlation lower than 0.4 shows that there is no dependence between two arrays of data, therefore, you can see that there is no influence of the number of words in URL on SE rank.
There has been a lot of debate about how much the ranking of a site is influenced by presence of keyword in the URL.
I have performed the following research:
I analyzed the top-100 sites in Google and Yahoo by keyword "myrmecology"
With the help of Web CEO web promotion suite I extracted the statistics of keyword presence in URLs of these top-100 pages.
Our research shows that keyword is present in 64% of URLs in Google and 30% of URLs in Yahoo. Take a look at the following Excel chart:
We suppose that Google assignes much more weight to presence of keyword in title than Yahoo.
At the same time, we have some doubts about this: as you can see with Yahoo, the density of URLs with kwd strongly increases as we are getting closer to the #1 spot. Do you have any ideas about this? Any comment will be appreciated.
The Google presents a new logo today. It's obvious the company pays its design department not in vain
